Moving Tip of The Week – Don’t Be Afraid to Introduce Yourself to Your New Neighbors
So you just moved and are itching to meet some new people. The best place to start is with your neighbors. Having a neighbor you can trust can come in handy for many reasons. From having a person to hang out with to having someone to collect your mail while you’re on vacation, getting to know your neighbors can come with some worthwhile benefits. Here are some tips to getting to know your neighbors better:
- Be Bold: Just go straight up to your neighbor’s door, give it a good knock, and introduce yourself. Like pulling off a band aid in one quick motion, getting to know your neighbors right away is easier than doing in slowly over time. It might feel awkward at first, but it will be worthwhile once done.
- Be Inviting: If you plan on having a little housewarming party, don’t forget to invite your neighbors. This will help seal your neighborly bond.
- Be Available: Even if you’ve already met your neighbors, don’t be afraid to chit chat with them every once in a while. This will keep the relationship fresh and current.
- Be Inclusive: Maybe you’re walking your dog, or maybe you’re doing some gardening- whatever it is you’re doing, if you see that your neighbors share a similar interest, don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with them about that interest. Maybe even invite them along to share in a particular activity that involves that shared interest.
