The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) made a final ruling prohibiting interstate truck and bus drivers from cell phone usage while operating vehicles. Drivers who violate this rule will be fined $2,750 and possibly  disqualified from operating commercial motor vehicles in addition to a suspension of their commercial driver’s license (CDL).  Companies that allow drivers to use cell phones can face a maximum penalty of $11,000.
